University of Southern Indiana Men’s Swimming and Diving Performance at A3 Performance Invitational

The University of Southern Indiana (USI) Men’s Swimming and Diving team finished fifth in the A3 Performance Invitational hosted by Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. The competition lasted three days and featured multiple events where the team broke four school records and qualified for seven A Finals, achieving four top-three placements.

Competition Overview

Each day included morning prelims, which determined the qualifying swimmers for A, B, C, or D finals in the evening. A Finals allowed the top eight swimmers in each event to earn points for their team. The USI team improved their score by 14.5 points compared to 2023.

Final Standings:

  1. Southern Illinois University Carbondale – 1,023 points
  2. University of Nebraska Omaha – 745 points
  3. Bellarmine University – 475 points
  4. University of Evansville – 426.5 points
  5. University of Southern Indiana – 380.5 points
  6. Eastern Illinois University – 194 points

Thursday Results

  • Jack Hannon and Sam Smith both qualified for the A Finals in the 500 freestyle. Smith finished sixth with a time of 4:36.86, while Hannon placed eighth at 4:40.37. Together, they earned 23.5 points for the team.
  • Jude Winnington narrowly missed the A Finals but excelled in the B Finals, setting a school record in the 200 IM with a time of 1:53.41. After day one, USI was in fourth place with 130.5 points.

Friday Highlights

  • Nathan Deputy performed well in the three-meter event, finishing third in the A Finals with a score of 270.55 points. Lane Pollock followed closely in fifth place, adding a total of 30 points from the three-meter event.
  • Winnington continued to shine, placing second in the 400 IM with a school record time of 4:00.82. Freshman Justin Knauf contributed with a fifth-place finish in the same event.

Saturday Summary

  • Camden Richardson stood out in the B Finals of the 200 Backstroke, adding seven points with a time of 1:53.12. Freshman Luke Rich broke a school record in the B Finals of the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 2:07.89.
  • Sam Smith concluded the competition with a third-place finish in the 200 butterfly, recording yet another school record at 1:49.76.

Upcoming Events
The USI team will take a break before competing in the U.S. Open in Greensboro, North Carolina, from December 4 to 7.
