Palakkad: Transport Minister Anthony Raju said that the reason for the accident was that the tourist bus that had an accident in Vadakancherry was over speeding. The accident happened when the KSRTC bus collided with the back of the bus while overtaking the car. At this time the tourist bus was traveling at a speed of 97.5 km per hour. School authorities have also failed. The minister said that the details of the trip were not communicated to the RTO. A thorough investigation will be carried out into the incident. The minister also said that the information should be reported to the transport department when schools organize field trips.

Nine people died in the accident. 12 people were seriously injured. The accident happened at around 12am on Thursday. The accident happened in a bus carrying a group of students who had gone on an excursion from Mulanthurutthi Baselius Vidyaniketan School, Ernakulam. Kottarakkara – Coimbatore high speed bus collided with the accident. There were 41 students and five teachers in the tourism group.

The tourist bus, which was going to Ooty, collided with a KSRTC express bus and overturned in the swamp. KSRTC was going from Kottarakkara to Coimbatore. Students from Plus One and Plus Two classes went on the excursion. The accident took place near Walayar Vadakancheri Kollamthara bus stand. Four people who were taken to Palakkad district hospital died. Four of those taken to Alathur Taluk Hospital and one to a private hospital died.
Around fifty people have been injured. 12 of them are in a serious condition. The passenger of the KSRTC bus is also presumed dead. It is reported that the speeding tourist bus was trying to overtake the Super Fast when it swerved and overturned. The injured were shifted to Palakkad District Hospital, Alathur Taluk Hospital and hospitals in Thrissur.
