Vande Bharat Express Halts at Chengannur and Pathanamthitta for the Benefit of Sabarimala Pilgrims

Chengannur and Pathanamthitta have emerged as crucial stops for the Vande Bharat Express, providing immense benefits to the Sabarimala pilgrims. The joyous occasion was marked by the traditional vanchipaat accompaniment during the reception. Initially, the demand for a stop at Chengannur was raised when Kasaragod-Thiruvananthapuram Vande Bharat train was announced. However, despite Tirur and Chengannur making it to the final list, Tiruvalla, located in Pathanamthitta district, also emerged as a desired halt among the locals.

While Pathanamthitta itself remains a non-stop area for the Vande Bharat train, both Thiruvalla and Chengannur cater to the people of Pathanamthitta district. Chengannur, in particular, serves as the primary railway station for Sabarimala, making it the preferred choice for Sabarimala pilgrims arriving by train. Additionally, this station witnesses significant traffic from passengers who arrive by Sabarimala special train. To accommodate the needs of pilgrims, KSRTC operates special services to Pampa based on the train’s arrival.

The arrival of Vande Bharat Express at Chengannur railway station, now with an added stop, was greeted with an enormous crowd. The train was received with a shower of flowers, accompanied by melodious tunes from musical instruments and vanchipaat. On Monday morning, at 6:53 am, Union Minister of State for External Affairs, V Muraleedharan, inaugurated the reception held at the railway station. MP Suresh, municipal chairman Soosamma Abraham, railway officials, and other dignitaries also participated in the event.

With the allotted stop, Vande Bharat Express halts at Chengannur from 6:53 to 6:55 in the morning and from 8:46 to 8:48 in the evening. The morning train departs from Thiruvananthapuram, reaching Chengannur at 6:53 am, and returns to Kasaragod at 6:55 am. In the evening, the Vande Bharat train departs from Kasaragod, arriving at Chengannur at 8:46 pm, and then proceeds to Thiruvananthapuram at 8:48 pm. A two-minute time allowance is given at Chengannur.

MP Suresh of Kodikunnil expressed that the Railway Board has confirmed that the stop extended to the Vande Bharat train at Chengannur is permanent. Initially, it was announced that a temporary halt would be granted for the Sabarimala season. However, the recent order from the Railway Board clarified that the stop at Chengannur for the Vande Bharat Express is now a permanent fixture.

Kodikunnil MP Suresh said that the Railway Board has informed that the stop allotted to the Vande Bharat train at Chengannur will be permanent. Earlier it was announced that a temporary stop will be allowed for the Sabarimala season. But in the order issued by the Railway Board, it has been clarified that the Vande Bharat train stop at Chengannur is permanent.
