VAT has to be paid on the job application

Henceforth, candidates will be charged value added tax (VAT) and commission on application fee when applying for jobs in government and autonomous organizations online. For the first time, this decision was taken to collect VAT along with the job application fee. The Finance Department of the Ministry of Finance has recently issued a new notification to fix the VAT rate along with the job application fee.

The issuance of this notification supersedes the notification issued on September 22 last year on the same subject. According to the new notification, application and examination fee will be charged for applying for government jobs online through teletalk.

A maximum of 10 percent of the exam fee will be paid to Teletalk as commission, and 15 percent of the commission will be collected as VAT. As a result, the application cost of government job seekers will increase slightly.

Earlier there was a provision of 10 percent commission on the application fee but no VAT was collected.

According to the revised notification, if the fee is Rs 600 through teletalk, an additional Rs 60 as 10 per cent commission and Rs 6 as 15 per cent VAT will be charged from the job seeker. That is, the applicant will have to pay an additional fee of 600 taka plus 66 taka.

The application fee will be Rs 600 for Grade IX and above (non-cadre) posts, Rs 500 for Grade X, Rs 300 for Grades 11-12, Rs 200 for Grades 13-16 and Rs 100 for Grades 17-20, the notification said.
