Verstappen Meltdown Sparked Rush to Red Bull Exit – Russell
Russell: Verstappen’s Hungary outburst Led to Mass Red Bull Exodus
abu Dhabi, UAE – George Russell has ignited a fresh war of words with Max Verstappen, claiming that a quarter of Red Bull’s engineering team sought new jobs following the Dutchman’s explosive outburst at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
The simmering feud between the two drivers escalated in Qatar after a qualifying incident resulted in a grid penalty for Verstappen. Tensions reached a boiling point in Abu Dhabi, with both drivers trading barbs.
Russell, speaking to media including RacingNews365,pointed to Verstappen’s reaction to a difficult race in Hungary as evidence of his inability to handle pressure.
“He’s had the most dominant car in recent history for two and a half years,” Russell said. “I’m not questioning his driving abilities one single bit – but the second he does not have the fastest car, let’s take Budapest as an example, he crashes into Lewis, he slams his whole team, and he loses the plot.”
The mercedes driver went on to allege that Verstappen’s behavior in Hungary had a significant impact on Red Bull’s engineering staff.
“straight away after that race,25 percent of his engineering team were sending their CVs to Mercedes,to McLaren to Aston Martin, because they said they can’t deal with a guy like that,” Russell claimed.
Russell also addressed Verstappen’s accusations that he had lobbied for the Dutchman’s grid penalty in Qatar, stating that he was baffled by the intensity of Verstappen’s anger.
“I walked into that stewards [meeting] with no problem with Max,” Russell explained.”I walked out of that stewards [meeting] with no problem with Max. I went back,I told my team, and we laughed about it,and then I woke up the next day,and I was expecting to have a laugh about it. But I saw the fire in his eyes. So I don’t know why this topic has got him so angry. Like I said to you before, he cannot deal with adversity.”
The war of words between Russell and Verstappen adds another layer of intrigue to the already intense rivalry between Mercedes and Red Bull. As the Formula 1 season draws to a close,it remains to be seen whether these two drivers can put their differences aside and focus on the track.
