Virender Sehwag Reveals Hilarious World Cup Memory with Sachin Tendulkar

Virender Sehwag Recalls Hilarious Moment with Sachin Tendulkar during 2011 World Cup

New Delhi, October 11, 2023

The anticipation surrounding the upcoming Cricket World Cup 2023 is growing rapidly, with numerous intriguing stories already making rounds on social media. One such intriguing memory has been shared by none other than Virender Sehwag, widely regarded as one of India’s greatest batsmen of all time. Sehwag recently reminisced about a World Cup incident involving the cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar.

During the 2011 World Cup semi-final against Pakistan, Tendulkar was unfortunately dismissed for 85 runs by spinner Saeed Ajmal. As Tendulkar walked back to the pavilion in frustration, Sehwag, who was in the dugout at the time, couldn’t help but laugh at his teammate’s misfortune of missing out on a century. However, to Sehwag’s surprise, Tendulkar returned the laughter with a smile. Sehwag humorously shared this incident during a recent press conference.

“He understood why I was laughing. He knew that I found it amusing because he hadn’t scored a century. Interestingly, India ended up losing both matches in which Tendulkar scored a hundred. The other match was a draw. An Indian victory over Pakistan was all that mattered. If Tendulkar had reached a century, India would have lost. But how did he manage to read my mind?” Sehwag narrated with a light-hearted tone.

India eventually reached the World Cup final after defeating Pakistan and went on to lift the coveted trophy by triumphing over Sri Lanka. Tendulkar finished as India’s top scorer in the tournament, accumulating 482 runs at an impressive average of 53.55 from nine matches. The batting maestro also registered two centuries and two fifties. Sehwag, on the other hand, contributed 380 runs to India’s victorious campaign.
