Sharjah International Book Festival Set to Begin on November 1

The highly-anticipated Sharjah International Book Festival is slated to kick off on November 1 at the renowned Sharjah Expo Centre. With an impressive lineup of guests from India, including Bollywood star Kareena Kapoor, financial writer Monika Helen, and celebrated Chef Pillai, along with South Korea as the guest country, this year’s event promises to be a literary extravaganza.

Under the theme of ‘talk about books’, the fair aims to foster meaningful conversations about literature and promote a love for reading. The official announcement of the fair’s details was made during a press conference held at the headquarters of the esteemed Sharjah Books Authority.

Unprecedented Collection of Books

Book enthusiasts will be enthralled to know that a staggering 1.5 million books in various languages will be available at the fair. In addition, a remarkable presence of 1,200 Arab publishers from the region, as well as 120 publishers from India, is expected to enrich the literary landscape.

The star-studded guest list includes the aforementioned Bollywood icon Kareena Kapoor, respected financial writer Monika Helen, renowned astronaut Sunita Williams, acclaimed Dutch yogacharya Swami Purnachaitanya, and skilled Chef Pillai. Ahmed Al Marri, the CEO of the Sharjah Books Authority, also revealed that more prominent guests will be announced in due course.

Publisher’s Conference and Honoring Excellence

Prior to the commencement of the fair, a publisher’s conference will be organized from the 29th to the 31st of this month. During this conference, the prestigious Sharjah Copyright Awards will recognize outstanding contributions in the publishing industry. Particularly, publishers who cater to the differently-abled will be specially honored for their valuable work.

Diverse Program of Events

With a staggering 1,700 events planned, there will be something for everyone at the Sharjah International Book Festival. Noteworthy highlights include captivating book discussions, meet-and-greets with renowned authors, exciting fairs for children, engaging plays, immersive workshops, and tempting cooking fairs.

The fair aims to attract attendees from around the globe, with representatives from 66 countries already confirmed. Further enhancing the international allure, South Korean Consul General Moon Byungyun was also present at the press conference.

As bookworms eagerly await the start of this literary spectacle, the Sharjah International Book Festival promises to be an unforgettable celebration of the written word.
