war | Russia is bombing its own population again

Russian units accidentally hit a village in the Lugansk region they annexed. This is not the first incident of this kind.

The Russian Air Force accidentally bombed civilians in the Lugansk region. The head of the Lugansk Republic appointed by Putin, Leonid Passetschnik, confirmed this on his Telegram channel.

“During combat missions by aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces over the city of Rubizhne, an emergency drop of FAB-250 aircraft ammunition occurred,” Passetschnik said. No one was injured and the residents of the destroyed houses were taken to emergency shelters or to relatives, the statement continued. Passetschnik promised that the incident would be investigated. The Russian Defense Ministry declined to comment when contacted by Newsweek magazine.

“The Russian army is a threat to the Russians”

It is the second incident in seven days in which the Russian Air Force accidentally hits civilians. Just last week, an erroneously fired rocket hit the Russian village of Petropavlovka in the Voronezh region. According to Russian information, there were no deaths in this incident either. After the incident last week, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s adviser Anton Herashchenko wrote on the X platform (formerly Twitter) that Russians living in the flight path would be better off going to shelters if Russia shells Ukraine. “The Russian army is a threat to the Russians,” Herashchenko continued.

In recent months there have been repeated reports that Russian soldiers and civilians were also hit in Russian attacks. In some cases, one’s own units are said to have been deliberately fired upon after they had surrendered. Read more about the topic here.
