[아시아경제 이지은 기자] The first phone call between President Moon Jae-in and the new Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is expected to take place as early as the 15th. Previously, the Japanese media reported that there would be a phone call the day before, but it seems that the schedule has been delayed somewhat during the coordination process. If the call is made, President Moon will be the 7th president to speak to Prime Minister Kishida on the phone.

As of the 15th, South Korea and Japan are in the last minute reconciling the schedule for a phone call between the leaders. The timing is expected to be this afternoon, but there is a possibility that it will be delayed. Today marks the 12th anniversary of Prime Minister Kishida’s inauguration. Former Prime Minister Suga held a normal phone call in nine days.

In addition, unlike Prime Minister Suga’s phone calls with South Korea after the US and Canada, Prime Minister Kishida spoke first with his Quad allies, including the US, Australia, and India, as well as the leaders of Britain, China and Russia. The Japanese media also interpreted this to mean that Korea was pushed back to the second group instead of the first.

The two heads of state are expected to hold discussions on past history, such as conscripts and comfort women, and discuss ways to develop bilateral relations in a future-oriented way.
