Candidates for the new name of the Office of the President have been narrowed down to five, including ‘People’s House’, ‘People’s Government Complex’, ‘Mineum Government Complex’, ‘Barunnuri’ and ‘Itaewon-ro 22’.

The Presidential Committee on Names of Servants announced on the 3rd that it had deliberated and decided on the criteria for screening nominations, selection of candidates, and criteria for selection of final works at a two-day meeting on the 31st of last month and the 1st of this month.

About 30,000 applications were received in the public contest for the name of the presidential office, which was held for a month from April 15th. The committee explained, “We selected five nominations by unanimous consent of the committee through an in-depth review through a complete review, analysis of high-frequency vocabulary, and four votes.”

According to the committee, among the nominees, ‘People’s House’ implies that the people are the owners of the presidential office, and the presidential office is a space open to all.

‘People’s Government Building’ means a public space for the ‘people’, and it goes beyond ‘Cheongsa’, which means government office, to listen to the people (聽) and think about the people (思).

‘Mineum Cheongsa’ means a government office that listens to the people’s voices.

‘Barunnuri’ is a pure Korean word combining ‘barun’ meaning just and ‘nuri’ meaning the world, and contains the people’s hope for a fair world.

‘Itaewon-ro 22’ is taken from the street name address of the office, and as a citizen, the president also uses the address that all citizens have as the name of the office to communicate with the people genuinely, and a new presidential office will be launched in ’22. ‘, the committee explained.

The committee conducts an online preference survey of the public from the 3rd to the 9th for the five nominations, and selects the final work by adding up the survey results and the judges’ points in a ratio of 7 to 3, respectively. You can participate in the public preference survey at ‘People Thinking’ (www.epeople.go.kr/idea).

Chairman Kwon Young-geol said, “It is very meaningful and historic to give the new space a new name by relocating the presidential office, which had been named ‘Gyeongmudae’ for 12 years from 1948 and ‘Blue House’ for 60 years. We will do our best until the end so that the committee can fulfill its assigned tasks responsibly.”
