WhatsApp Enhances User Experience with New Features for Chats,Calls, and Channels
WhatsApp is rolling out a series of updates designed to improve user experience across group chats, individual conversations, calls, and channels. The enhancements focus on streamlined coordination, expanded reaction options, and increased convenience.
Improved Group Chat Management
Group chats now display the number of online members directly under the group name, facilitating quicker coordination, especially for spontaneous gatherings. Notification settings have also been refined, allowing users to prioritize alerts for @mentions, replies, or messages from saved contacts.
Event Planning Extended to Individual Chats
The event planning feature, previously limited to group chats, is now available in private conversations. Users can utilize options such as “maybe” RSVPs, inviting guests, and setting end times. Events are also searchable within chats for easy access.
simplified Reactions and In-App Document Scanning
reacting to messages is now easier with a swift tap to send a “+1” response. iPhone users can now scan and send documents directly through the app.
WhatsApp as Default App on iOS
With the latest iOS update, users can set WhatsApp as their default messaging and calling application within the iPhone settings under “Standard Apps.”
Call Functionality Expansion
The calling interface has been updated to allow users to share call links or add participants directly from the chat. A zoom function has also been added for video calls.
WhatsApp reports that the underlying technology for video calls has been optimized. A new routing system aims to reduce connection issues and automatically enable HD quality when bandwidth allows.
Channel and Status Updates
Channel administrators can now post short video updates, up to 60 seconds in length, similar to private chats. Voice messages can be transcribed for easy reading. Each channel now has a unique QR code for direct access.
Additional features are reportedly in development, including new privacy settings recently spotted in the WhatsApp beta version.
