Who is the Area Secretary waiting for Karayi Chandrasekharan? What is happening in Kannur conferences .. | Karayi Chandrasekharan | CPM Kannur

Kannur: CPM leader Karayi Chandrasekharan, who was allowed to enter Kannur after getting bail in the Fazal murder case, will reach the district on Friday. The return of Karayi Chandrasekaran and Karayi Rajan, who had to stay in other districts on parole for 10 years, is crucial in the political arena. It is learned that Chandrasekharan is awaiting the post of CPM Thalassery area secretary.

The current secretary is M.C. Pavithran has been the secretary three times and will be dropped this time. Chandrasekharan will come to that position. If Chandrasekhar, currently an Area Committee member, is nominated for the post of Secretary, it will be unanimously approved. Politburo member Kodiyeri Balakrishnan will inaugurate the conference. Karayi Rajan is currently a member of the CPM district secretariat. The two were charged in connection with the murder of NDF activist Fazal in Thalassery.

Kannur party ran ahead

The CPM has entered the area conventions after completing the branch and local conventions in Kannur, which started the pre-party conventions. The Matai and Peravoor Area Conferences started on November 2 and 3. Departments, black flags and protests at two local assemblies over regional sectarianism will be discussed at the area conferences.

The conference will focus on the Peravoor Chitti controversy, the failure to make Pariyaram Medical College patient friendly, allegations of corruption in co – operative societies and local bodies, problems in local government, quotation mafia links, party discipline and the work of leaders. The activities of the Area Committees for the last four years and the participation of the people in the party programs are expected to be discussed.

165 women

Out of 3970 branch committees in the district, women have been made secretaries in 165 places. Newcomers and young people were represented. It has been decided to give top priority to those below 40 years of age when selecting members for the constituents up to the Area Committee. 237 local conferences completed. Women have been made secretaries in two local conferences. Muzhakkunnu-T Prasanna and Kalyad-T Sreeja are the local women secretaries. Some local conventions also include unexpected contests for committee and secretary positions. In some cases, those who competed against the official panel won.

ിക്കാതെ Without following the instructions of the party

The decision not to include those working in the co-operative sector in the party leadership was not implemented in some locals. Those who work in co-operatives have become local secretaries. Such places may need to be changed later. There have also been incidents of local sectarianism leading to competition for committees at certain conferences and the defeat of those on the official panel.

The secretary will also change in Koothuparamba

The CPM has 18 area committees in the district. Koothuparamba Area Secretary K Dhananjayan will also resign after the decision to remove the three-time secretaries was taken. Dhananjayan is currently a member of the district committee. He also has the potential to run for the district secretariat. If youth is considered in Koothuparamba, Shaji Karippai is likely. Former municipal chairman M Sukumaran may also be considered. If C. Satyapalan, the current secretary in Peringom, is elected to the district secretariat, there may be a change in Peringom later. KP Sudhakaran may also resign in Kannur. Instead, young people are expected to come.

Will the women come

The woman may be the secretary of any area committee. Various area committees have been directed to look into the possibility. There are currently no women as Area Secretaries. If women are given the consideration they deserve at the branch and locally, women will head any area committee. There are also plans to include more women in area committees.

Some committees smoked controversy

Some area committees are smoking hot coal. The illegal chit in Peravoor will be discussed not only there but also in other conferences. Currently M. Rajan is the secretary there. In the wake of the chit controversy, there is a need for newcomers. The CPI (M) was in crisis here as it was unable to pay its customers by making chits without the permission of the Co-operation Department. The institution is under the governing body of the party.

Most of the customers are party workers or sympathizers. The issue could not be resolved within the party. The district leadership had to intervene as the traders organized and went on strike. The party promised a refund but no action was taken. It is against this backdrop that the Area Conference is going to be held in Peravoor. There is a strong feeling in the ranks that the party leadership has failed to find fault with the co-operative.

In Payyanur, there was a situation where the area secretary who had behaved in a manner that was not in line with the party had to be replaced. Currently V. Kunhikrishnan is the Area Secretary. He is not the secretary elected by the conference. As such it may continue with the approval of the Conference. When the youth are considered for leadership, P. Santosh may become the secretary. Local sectarianism has taken root in the local bodies under the Taliparamba and Kannur area committees. Though Taliparamba K Santhosh may continue as the secretary, there are those in Kannur who are demanding change.

The challenge of regional sectarianism

The spread of regional sectarianism at CPM conventions poses a challenge to the leadership. Sectarian activity also took place at the Kannur Town West Local Conference in the city center after a section withdrew from the CPM Taliparamba North Local Conference alleging sectarianism. The ranks are protesting against the inclusion of only those who are interested in leadership in the committees, without respecting the working tradition. The CPM is also embarrassed by the fact that activists have gone on public protest announcing that they are no longer with the party.

The only consolation for the CPM is that those who leave the party in the name of sectarianism do not go to other parties. At the same time, they are becoming regional groups and challenging the party. There is a difference of opinion among senior leaders on how to deal with those who have clashed with the party leadership. Among the leaders, there are those who say that those who are at loggerheads should be reconciled and brought back, while those who disagree should be expelled.

Local committee member K Muraleedharan and his associates, who had joined the party in Taliparamba, have formed a residents’ association in the Keezhatoor area and are carrying out parallel activities. The leadership has sought an explanation from Murali for leaving the conference and four others, including branch secretaries, for raising black flags and protesting against the party. The Taliparamba blast was caused by the sectarian involvement of people in the local committee.

Criticism was raised at the Kannur Town West Local Conference against the election of local committee members and the misguided leadership of the leadership, regardless of the leaders who had rooted the CPM in the center of the Muslim League power. Activists in the Thayatheru area, led by five people, including former local secretary TM Irshad, have raised their voices against the leadership. They are also of the view that they are no longer cooperating with the party. Here those who have joined the party are also moving forward with parallel work.

The banner and black flag have been hoisted against the party leadership. Those who have left the party allege that those who criticize the leadership have no place in the party. Earlier, Pinarayi and VS had created sectarianism in the CPM, but now activists in the district are organizing sectarianly against the selfish interests of the local leadership.

English Summary: Kannur CPM is in full swing with Area Conferences
