WHO released a priority list of fungal pathogens

Geneva: The World Health Organization has released a priority list of fungal pathogens that pose a threat to public health. The ‘Fungal Priority Pathogen List’ was prepared based on the research carried out at the University of Sydney, Australia.

Research shows that the rate and range of fungal disease outbreaks is expanding as a result of global warming and increased international travel and trade. Fungal infections were common among hospital patients during the Covid pandemic. “Not only are fungal infections growing and they are becoming more resistant to drugs, it is a cause for concern,” said WHO Assistant Director-General, Antimicrobial Resistance, Dr. Hanan Balkhi says.
