Who’s in charge? Taliban insurgency intensifies; Baradar reportedly shot dead | Afghanistan | Taliban | Haqqani Network | Mullah Baradar

Kabul: The Taliban’s government in Afghanistan is expected to be formed soon, but there is still controversy over who will head it. There have been reports of a transfer of power within the Taliban, which has led to shootings.

The Taliban’s co-founder Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, who is expected to be Afghanistan’s president, was shot dead during the clashes, according to the Panchsheer Observer, a local Afghan media outlet. The dispute is between the leadership of the Haqqani Network, which is close to the Taliban, and the Mullah Baradar alliance.

While the Baradar alliance argues for the inclusion of minorities in the government, Sirajuddin, a deputy Taliban leader who controls Haqqan, says power cannot be shared. Haqqani is a Taliban-linked terrorist organization based in Pakistan. Earlier, it was reported that Haqqani would play a significant role in the Taliban government. The Haqqani Network wants a complete Taliban government.

Haqqani Baradar has told the coalition that Kabul has been captured by the Taliban and is therefore their right over the Afghan capital. Haqqani leader Anas Haqqani and Taliban leader Mullah Baradar have reportedly clashed over a power struggle that culminated in a shootout.

Afghan media reported that Faisal Hamid, the head of Pakistan’s intelligence service, had visited Kabul to resolve the issue between Baradar and Haqqani. It is learned that Faiz Hameed had come to discuss the Taliban’s announcement as it was delayed. “There is nothing to worry about, everything will be fine,” Faiz Hameed said of his visit to Kabul.

Faisal Hamid arrived in Kabul to ensure that the new government, not Baradar, is controlled by Haqqani, tweeted former Afghan women MP Mariam Solymankhil. Mariam tweeted that there were differences within the Taliban and that Baradar had called back his alliance from the Panchsheer attack.
