World Markets: Summary of stock market, oil, gold

Indices and stock market conditions, oil, gold and foreign money markets on August 10, 2021

— The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed higher on Aug. 10, with the Dow and S&P500 both closing in New Highs. In response, the US Senate voted to pass a $1 trillion spending bill on infrastructure to boost the economy and create jobs in the US. The news is a factor supporting utilities stocks. and stocks that are expected to benefit from the economic recovery, including airline and cruise ships.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 35,264.67, up 162.82, or +0.46%. The S&P 500 closed at 4,436.75, up 4.40, or +0.10%. The Nasdaq closed at 14,788.09, down 72.09, or -0.49%.

— European stock markets closed higher on Aug. 10, hitting a new record high. It rose for the seventh day in a row as investors bought shares in response to the strong earnings announcement of listed companies. and economic recovery trends

The Stoxx Europe 600 Index closed at 472.32 points, up 1.64 points, or +0.35%.

The French CAC-40 index closed at 6,820.21, up 7.03, or +0.10%, the German stock market DAX closed at 15,770.71, up 25.30, or +0.16%, and the FTSE 100 in London closed at 7,161.04, up 28.74, or +0.40%

— London stocks closed higher last night (Aug 10) on the back of an improving outlook for British consumer spending. And the recovery of energy and mining stocks also boosted the market.

— New York gold futures closed positive overnight (Aug. 10) on the back of investors buying after gold prices fell sharply in the past. It is a driving factor for buying gold as a safe haven asset.

The COMEX (Commodity Exchange) gold contract will be delivered in December. It was up $5.2, or 0.3%, at $1,731.7/ounce.

Silver metal contract delivered in September It was up 12.3 cents, or 0.53%, at $23.392 an ounce.

Platinum contract delivered in Oct. It was up $16.1, or 1.66%, at $987 an ounce.

The palladium contract was delivered in September. It rose $47.90, or 1.8%, to close at $2,650 an ounce.

— New York West Texas Intermediate Crude Oil (WTI) ended higher on Aug. US oil demand will rise Including news, the US Senate voted to pass a $1 trillion spending bill on infrastructure to stimulate the economy. Meanwhile, investors are eyeing the weekly US crude inventories report, which is scheduled to be released today.

The WTI crude oil contract was delivered in September. It was up $1.81, or 2.7%, at $68.29 a barrel.

The Brent crude oil contract (BRENT) delivered in October. It was up $1.59 or 2.3% to close at $70.63 a barrel.

— The US Dollar appreciates against the major currencies. In trading at the New York Stock Exchange last night (Aug. 10), as investors still expect that Strong US labor data will drive the Federal Reserve (Fed) to start considering interest rate hikes. and reducing the amount of the bond purchase program following the quantitative easing (QE) measures. At the same time, investors are closely watching the US inflation numbers this week.

The dollar index, which measures the dollar’s movements against six major currencies in a basket of currencies, rose 0.12% to 93.0569 overnight.

The US dollar strengthened against the yen to 110.57 yen from 110.28 and was stronger against the Swiss franc to 0.9228 from 0.9200 francs. Canadian dollar to 1.2526 Canadian dollar from 1.2572 Canadian dollar

The euro was lower against the dollar to $1.1721 from $1.1741, while the pound was lower to $1.3839 from $1.3852, and the Australian dollar rose to $0.7349 from $0.73335.
