Microsoft is preparing to launch a new tier of Xbox Game Pass called the “Starter Edition,” which will be bundled with Discord Nitro subscriptions, according to multiple reports and leaks verified by technology news outlets.

The new offering, first teased by Xbox CEO Asha Sharma in early April 2026, provides Discord Nitro subscribers with access to over 50 games from the Xbox Game Pass library, including titles such as Stardew Valley, Grounded, and Fallout 4, as reported by The Verge and TheGamer based on leaked images and information from Discord Previews.

In addition to game access, the Starter Edition includes up to 10 hours per month of Xbox Cloud Gaming streaming and the ability to earn Xbox Rewards points while playing, according to the same sources. The tier does not appear to be limited to Microsoft’s first-party titles, with third-party games also expected to be part of the catalog.

The collaboration represents an expansion of the existing partnership between Xbox and Discord, which has long included integrated voice chat on Xbox consoles. Sharma indicated in a social media post that users would soon “start to see some code in the wild” as the companies build a deeper level of integration, with Discord sharing her post alongside a graphic featuring both logos and the caption “Soon™.”

This move aligns with Microsoft’s broader strategy to make Game Pass more flexible and accessible through partnerships, following a recent price adjustment to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate after the removal of new day-one Call of Duty releases from the tier. Sharma had previously stated that the subscription price had become “too expensive,” prompting the change to make the service more competitive.

Industry analysts note that the Starter Edition could serve as a model for future bundling arrangements, with Netflix co-CEO Greg Peters having previously mentioned discussions about similar subscription partnerships. The approach allows other services to incorporate Game Pass into their offerings, potentially expanding Microsoft’s reach in the subscription gaming market.

As of the latest reports, no official launch date or pricing details for the standalone Starter Edition have been announced, and Microsoft has not confirmed the exact list of included games. The information currently available comes from leaks and previews shared through Discord channels and reported by established technology publications.
