After China, the United States … Courtship Competition for Pacific Island States

[앵커]

The competition between the United States and China for supremacy in the Indo-Pacific region is intensifying.

Beyond Asia, as China started keeping close to the Pacific island countries recently, the United States also took care of these countries and began to love them.

US President Joe Biden invited leaders of the Pacific Islands Forum and PIF member countries to the White House for the first time.

It is unprecedented for Fiji, Samoa, Solomon Islands, and Palau to meet with the President of the United States by inviting the heads of these countries to Washington DC.

Key figures from the US government and Congress, including Secretary of State Tony Blincoln and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, attended the two-day event, including the summit.

“The security of the Pacific and the security of the islanders in the Pacific are still very important to us, and I also hope that you will certainly protect the security of the United States.”

They were treated with special courtesy, and the United States is taking care of these countries late until now because China is working hard and close to these countries.

In April, China signed a security agreement with the Solomon Islands, and State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a foreign ministers’ meeting with 10 island nations in Fiji.

In addition, we promote joint security economic initiatives with these countries.

From the point of view of the United States, they have not felt the need for control, considering that they are countries that were once controlled by the West and are still economically dependent.

“We have come together to declare a US-Pacific partnership, which demonstrates our shared vision for the future and our determination to build it.”

The United States also proposed a Pacific strategy for strengthening cooperation with these countries for the first time.

In addition to strengthening diplomatic and security relations, it includes an economic assistance plan worth more than 1 trillion won.
