Yoruba Film Industry Mourns: Beloved Actor Charles Olumo’s ‘Groom’ Passes On

Veteran Nigerian movie star, Pa Charles Olumo Sanyaolu, popularly known as Agbako, has announced his death at the age of 101 in the early hours of today (Thursday, October 31).

Announcing his death, the President of the Theater Arts and Film Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), Bolaji Amusa (Mr. Latin), said his family and the association would soon announce burial details.

Agbako, a beloved figure in Yoruba cinema, is now remembered as the oldest actor in Nigerian cinema, who lived for over a century and left an indelible mark on Nigeria’s cultural heritage.

News of Agbako’s death was confirmed by fellow Nollywood veteran, Jide Kosoko, who informed colleagues and fans of the grim incident and expressed condolences from actors, filmmakers and fans alike.

The actor’s influence on the Yoruba film industry has been enormous, with countless admirers growing up watching his performances in classic Yoruba films.
