Lima, Peru – Youna, a Peruvian influencer, has revealed a setback in his battle with leukemia, disclosing that the disease has become more aggressive and requires immediate medical intervention. The update comes after a period of silence on social media, during which he had led followers to believe his condition was stabilizing.
Youna explained that he received an unexpected call from his hematologist while shopping with his mother, requesting his urgent return to the hospital. The call followed the detection of a concerning anomaly in a recent electrocardiogram. “I was buying things calmly in Walmart with my mom, thinking that everything was over and the doctor calls me, my hematologist, and tells me: ‘I need you to come to the hospital urgently because in the last electrocardiogram (…) we found something in your heart, so we are very worried and we want you to please return to the hospital,’” he recounted.
Upon returning to the medical center, Youna was immediately admitted for further testing. The subsequent analysis revealed a significant change in his condition. “I left everything I was doing, just like that. I returned to the hospital and they admitted me automatically,” he stated.
New Mutations Detected
Further analysis revealed the presence of two new mutations in his cancer cells. “I was already calm at home, and I had my appointment with the hematologist. He showed me a result from a biopsy they did the day I was hospitalized with cancer, the day I was diagnosed with cancer. In that result, they found that I have two new mutations in my cancer,” Youna explained.
These mutations have caused the leukemia to become more aggressive, potentially necessitating more invasive treatments. Youna expressed concern about the possibility of needing intravenous chemotherapy, which he fears will have significant side effects, including hair loss and physical discomfort. “These two mutations have made my cancer more aggressive (…) Let’s hope and pray, really, with all my heart, that I don’t need to have intravenous chemotherapy because it is more aggressive with my body. It will also make my hair fall out, it’s painful,” he said.
Youna’s case highlights the complexities of leukemia treatment and the potential for disease progression even after initial periods of stability. Leukemia is a cancer of the blood-forming tissues, hindering the body’s ability to fight infection. Different types of leukemia exist, each requiring a tailored treatment approach. The detection of mutations within cancer cells is a common occurrence, often indicating a need to adjust treatment strategies.
While Youna’s specific type of leukemia and the precise nature of the mutations have not been publicly disclosed, the situation underscores the importance of ongoing monitoring and rapid response to changes in a patient’s condition. The use of electrocardiograms to detect cardiac involvement in leukemia patients is also a standard practice, as the disease and its treatment can sometimes affect heart function.
The influencer’s openness about his health struggles has resonated with his followers, many of whom have expressed support and offered prayers. His willingness to share his experience may also raise awareness about leukemia and the challenges faced by those living with the disease.
The case also serves as a reminder of the financial and emotional burdens associated with cancer treatment. While Youna has not publicly discussed the costs of his care, cancer treatment can be prohibitively expensive, even in countries with universal healthcare systems.
As Youna prepares for the next phase of his treatment, he is relying on the support of his family, friends, and fans. The coming weeks will be critical in determining the best course of action to combat the aggressive mutations and restore his health. Further updates on his condition are expected as his medical team develops a revised treatment plan.
