What is YouTube Recap 2025?

YouTube Recap 2025 is a new feature that provides users with a personalized summary of ⁢their viewing activity throughout the year. Similar ‍to the year-end summaries offered by services ⁣like Spotify Wrapped and YouTube Music Recap, this feature highlights ‍top artists, videos, and viewing trends. This marks the first time YouTube is offering‍ a extensive year-end recap directly on the main YouTube⁣ platform; previously, similar features were limited to YouTube Music.

The feature aims to offer a nostalgic and engaging experience, allowing users to reflect on their viewing habits and share ⁢their personalized recaps with others.

Eligibility Requirements: Four Conditions to Qualify

To be eligible for YouTube Recap⁣ 2025, users must meet four key criteria. These requirements ensure the recap is personalized and ⁤meaningful, while also adhering to ⁣age restrictions⁣ and data privacy considerations.

1. Sufficient Viewing⁤ History (January – October 2025)

The primary requirement is a substantial⁤ amount of viewing history between January 1st and October 31st, 2025. YouTube has not publicly specified the exact amount of viewing time required, but consistent engagement is crucial. It’s crucial to note that videos that are paused for extended periods or automatically deleted will not be counted towards qualifying viewing history. This encourages active and intentional viewing.

2. Age Requirements

Users must be at least 13 years of age, or meet the age of majority as defined by the laws of their respective country. This aligns with YouTube’s existing policies regarding user accounts and content access. Age verification processes may be in place to ensure compliance.

3. Account Type

Supervised accounts, designed for younger‍ users, are explicitly ineligible for YouTube Recap 2025. This is likely due to the privacy considerations and parental control features associated with supervised accounts. A standard YouTube account is required.

4. No Active Auto-Delete

As mentioned above, if a user has the auto-delete⁤ feature enabled for their viewing history, those videos⁢ will not be considered when generating the recap. Users who wish to receive a recap should disable ‍auto-delete before January 1, 2025.

How Viewing History is Calculated

YouTube’s algorithm considers several ⁢factors when calculating viewing history for the Recap. While the exact weighting is not public, these factors likely include:

• Total Watch Time: The cumulative amount of time spent watching videos.
• Number of Unique Videos Watched: The variety of content consumed.
• Frequency of Viewing: How often a user engages with the platform.
• Content Categories: the types of videos watched (e.g.,music,gaming,education).

Pauses exceeding a certain duration (the‍ specific threshold is undisclosed) and videos subject to ‍auto-deletion are ‍excluded from these calculations.
