Series Background and Legacy

Yumi’s Cells is based on the eponymous webtoon by Lee Dong-gun. The television adaptation first premiered on tvN on September 17, 2021, and was simultaneously released on TVING, and iQIYI. The first season was directed by Lee Sang-yeob and featured Kim Go-eun, Ahn Bo-hyun, and Park Jin-young.

The second season premiered exclusively on TVING on June 10, 2022, before later airing on tvN starting November 16, 2022. The production is noted for its innovative use of 3D animated brain cells to represent the protagonist’s emotions and decision-making processes.

The global reach of the franchise was established early, with TVING announcing on September 8, 2021, that the drama had sold broadcast rights to more than 160 countries, including markets in North America, Europe, and Southeast Asia.

With the premiere of Season 3, the series continues its exploration of psychological drama and romance, focusing on the evolution of Yumi’s character and her new interactions with Kim Jae-won’s character.
