[경제][더뉴스] Fear of high prices hitting young people… “Cutting savings and reducing spending”

[윤한별 / 경기도 성남시 (지난해 12월, YTN) : 저녁을 빠르고 싸게 해결하려다 보면 그냥 대충 1,650원짜리 우유만 먹고 해결하게 될 때도 있더라고요.]

It is the voice of our youth.

There is an analysis that shows the amount of economic pain that young people feel is the most serious due to the recent increase in prices and the cold wave in employment.

The ‘Economic Distress Index’, which is the sum of the inflation rate and the unemployment rate, is getting more painful for young people.

The index of economic distress for young people in the first half of last year was 25.1, the highest among all age groups.

The prices of food, accommodation, transport and groceries have risen significantly, all of which account for a high proportion of spending by young people.

It is even said that young people who urgently need to eat and live, have their future mortgaged.

In this situation, more and more young people are canceling or reducing the amount of Youth Hope Installment Savings, which was very popular with up to 10% annual interest.

With 167,000 people in the second quarter of last year and 134,000 in the third quarter of last year, the number of subscribers to the hopeful youth savings account at the end of September last year was down 301,000 from the closing date at the beginning of March.

The number of cancellations for the fourth quarter has not yet been increased, but is expected to increase from the third quarter.

Faced with a lack of seed money, more and more young people are giving up ‘housing subscription savings’, an important way of ‘buying a home’.

If you look at the statistics, you can see that the number of housing subscribers has gradually decreased since the second half of last year.

This is the first drop in 12 years since 2010.

Young people with thin wallets reduce their spending.

An increasing number of young people are switching to ‘affordable phone’ plans to reduce communication fees.

Only 170,000 people were collected in the pre-registration held by a financial platform before the launch of a budget phone, and about 70% of them were in their 20s and 30s.

Young people reduce their spending in various ways.

More and more young people are renting suits, which are essential for job interviews.

The number of young people who used the free suit rental service in Seoul increased significantly from around 4,000 in 2016 to around 40,000 last year.

Our young people continue in the era of high prices by reducing their spending today and even cutting savings accounts to prepare for the future.
