KEPCO announced that a joint venture established with the UAE Nuclear Power Corporation has obtained a license to operate Unit 3 from the UAE nuclear regulatory agency, and has begun loading fuel at Unit 3 of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant and is preparing for full-scale operation.
With the start of fuel loading, UAE nuclear power plant No. 3 will go through the remaining processes such as a gradual output increase test and performance assurance test to begin commercial operation.
KEPCO President Jeong Seung-il said that he is proud to have achieved the fuel loading goal of Unit 3 following the commencement of commercial operation of Unit 2 of the UAE nuclear power plant in March. .
The UAE nuclear power plant project is Korea’s first overseas nuclear power plant project, which KEPCO won an order in December 2009 to build four 5,600MW Korean-style nuclear power plants, APR 1400, in the Baraka region near Abu Dhabi, UAE. He said he would complete it.
