[대선 토론] 尹 Concerned about basic income, it is Article 1, Paragraph 1 of Lee’s national power policy.

On the 2nd, presidential candidate Yoon Seok-yeol of People’s Strength criticized Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party presidential candidate’s ‘basic income pledge’, saying, “It will make a sustainable virtuous cycle of growth and welfare difficult.” In response, Candidate Lee accepted that “The People’s Power Platform and Policy Article 1, Paragraph 1 is a basic income.”

During the last TV debate before the election hosted by the National Election Commission at the KBS main building in Yeouido, Seoul on the afternoon of the same day, candidate Yoon said, “If (Lee) pays basic income and universal welfare in cash, it will cost 1 million won a year and 50 trillion won in the national budget. “The idea is to raise the carbon tax and land tenure tax,” he said.



Candidate Lee then asked, “Candidate Yoon frequently criticizes basic income, but do you know that basic income is included in Article 1, Paragraph 1 of the People’s Power Platform and Policy?” In fact, Article 1, Paragraph 1 of the People’s Power Platform and Policy stipulates that ‘the state should support individuals to lead a stable and free life through a basic income’.



Candidate Yoon then drew a line saying, “It’s different from candidate Lee’s basic income.” Candidate Lee once again pointed out, “It is strange to say that an apology is an apology, and the apology I am talking about is different.”



Candidate Lee asked Candidate Yoon about the recently processed COVID-19 supplementary budget (additional budget). He said, “The government prepared a budget of 3 million won (for small business owners and the self-employed), but the people’s power almost interfered at first, then criticized it as ‘a 3 million won ticket act’, and then they said that they had raised 3 million won, It is said that if he is elected later, he will support 10 million won. What is the sincerity of Candidate Yoon?”



Candidate Yoon then said, “From last year, right after the Democratic Party snatched the loss compensation law without compensation, I have consistently said that 50 trillion won should be raised to compensate the self-employed and small business owners who have suffered losses due to the government’s quarantine policy. He insisted on it.”



He said, “(Lee or the Democratic Party) imitated the 50 trillion won promise I made before this year’s election, but in the end it was not possible to raise it as an additional budget and the 14 trillion won was going to snatch the 14 trillion won from the voting committee. The agreement has been passed,” he added.



Candidate Lee then said, “It’s a pity that the question I asked at first seemed to obstruct (the supplementary budget), then criticize it, and then say that he did it, and then avoid answering the 10 million won answer (in the end).”
