The reason why the risk of the spread of COVID-19 has sharply deteriorated is because the number of confirmed patients in the elderly aged 60 and over has increased.
As the number of breakthrough infections among the elderly increased, the proportion of confirmed cases progressing to severe disease also increased by more than 50%.

The government cited the high rate of severe cases compared to the number of confirmed cases as the reason for the rapid deterioration of quarantine indicators.
Among the confirmed cases, the ‘severe serious conversion rate’ that progresses to severe disease reaches 2.36%.
This is the first increase in three weeks from 1.56% in the first week of last month.
The number of patients with severe severe cases that can be reliably dealt with has exceeded 500, and the biggest cause is the increase in the number of confirmed patients in the elderly.
The proportion of confirmed patients over the age of 60, which stayed in the 20% range last month, increased significantly to 35.7% this month.
Due to the successive breakthrough infection, the elderly are in a hurry to receive additional vaccinations, and young adults aged 18 to 49 are also considering additional vaccinations in the first half of next year.

Considering that the effect decreases after a certain period of time after vaccination, the need to set the period for accreditation of the vaccination certificate has increased.

On the other hand, the quarantine authorities said that the number of unvaccinated children and adolescents could increase significantly due to the full school attendance starting this week, and again urged people to vaccinate.
The unvaccinated group had a 2.3-fold higher risk of infection, 11-fold greater severity, and four-fold higher mortality than the fully vaccinated group.
Although the benefits of vaccination are much greater, the current completion rate of vaccinations between 12 and 17 years of age is only 13.5%.
Accordingly, the government decided to proceed with additional advance reservations until the 31st of the following month.
