The number of critically ill patients surpassed 1,000 for the first time in history the previous day, and 9 new cases were added a day, recording 1,25.
The number of new COVID-19 cases was 6,236.
6,173 cases were domestic and 63 cases were imported.
The number of new confirmed cases continued to rise at 7,000 for four days from Wednesday of last week, and then fell to 6,000 in five days.
There were about a thousand fewer people than the day before, and it is at the same level as on Sunday a week ago.
It seems that the number of tests decreased due to the weekend and yesterday’s cold and snow.
The death toll increased by 78, bringing the total to 4,722.
Of the 78 people, 73 were over the age of 60.
As the number of critically ill patients exceeds 1,000 every day, it is urgent to secure medical capacity to treat critically ill patients.
As of yesterday afternoon, the utilization rate of intensive care beds in the metropolitan area recorded 85.9%, up 0.2 percentage points from the previous day.
In Seoul, there are only 46 beds remaining at 87%.
Another number of patients are waiting at home because they have not been assigned a bed on time.
As of 00:00 today, there are 893 patients waiting for hospital beds in the metropolitan area, of which 544 patients show mild or more symptoms and require immediate hospitalization, and 349 people are waiting for admission to the community treatment center.
Among these, the third vaccination was received by 520,000 people in one day yesterday, and the vaccination rate to the population was 22.5%.
