[영상] Xi Jinping shouted “We are brothers”… Pacific Island Countries Not on the Side of China

(Seoul = Yonhap News) China’s attempt to come up with a multilateral agreement that dramatically expands security and economic cooperation with Pacific island countries against the US Indo-Pacific strategy has failed.

Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi and foreign ministers of 10 South Pacific countries, including Solomon Islands, Kiribati, Samoa, Fiji, Tonga, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea, Niue, Cook Islands, and Micronesia, held the second China meeting in Fiji on the 30th (local time). – The Pacific Islands Foreign Ministers’ Meeting was held.

In his greeting to the meeting, Chinese President Xi Jinping said, “We want to build a closer community of shared destiny between China and the Pacific Islands. Brothers passing through together,” he added.

Foreign ministers from each country discussed a ‘comprehensive development vision’ that included measures to expand security and economic cooperation, but failed to conclude an agreement.

While it is not known how many countries expressed the disagreement, the Associated Press reported that Micronesia had raised the disagreement.

Micronesia’s President David Panuelo earlier said, “This is the single most game-changing agreement in the Pacific in our lifetime,” adding that “there is a risk that it will lead to a new Cold War at best, and at worst, World War II.” said.

The Chinese government said it was a “continuous discussion process”.
