The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and ABC announced on April 7, 2026, the dates for the final two Academy Awards ceremonies that will be broadcast on the network.
The 99th Oscars are scheduled for March 14, 2027, and the 100th Oscars will take place on March 5, 2028.
Transition to YouTube and New Venue
These two ceremonies will mark the end of the Oscars’ longtime broadcast partnership with ABC. Starting in 2029, the Academy Awards will move to YouTube.
The transition involves a change in physical location as well. The 99th and 100th ceremonies will be the final two held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
The Academy has entered into a 10-year agreement with AEG to move the show to a new venue at the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles.
Despite the upcoming platform shift, ABC and the film academy confirmed that the remaining broadcasts will maintain the earlier start time of 7 p.m. Eastern and 4 p.m. Pacific.
Context of the 98th Academy Awards
The announcement follows the 98th Oscars, which took place in March 2026. That ceremony experienced a 9% decrease in ratings, following several years of audience gains.
Conan O’Brien served as the host for the 98th ceremony. The event saw the film One Battle After Another
win the awards for best picture and best director.
In the acting categories, Michael B. Jordan won best actor for his role in Sinners
, while Jessie Buckley won best actress for her performance in Hamnet
