The African ⁣Development Bank (AfDB) is rolling out ⁢a new digital platform to improve coordination between its Regional Member Countries (RMCs) and enhance the implementation of bank operations. Senior officials ⁤from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Governors’ offices of the rmcs have embraced the platform.

During a workshop held in Abidjan on June 12-13, Protocol Directors and RMC focal ⁤points discussed ways to ⁤improve the practical application ⁣of host country‍ agreements. These agreements establish the bankS presence ⁢and ‍activities within member nations.The second High-Level Workshop⁢ on the Member States Engagement Framework addressed persistent challenges,including interpreting‍ key provisions of the agreement establishing the ⁤bank,privileges and ⁤immunities for staff,and⁣ implications ‍for regional projects.

to ⁢tackle these issues, participants endorsed the⁣ digital platform as a tool for ⁢information ‍sharing. They also agreed to create a central database of stakeholders, including Protocol Directors, Governors’ ⁣office representatives, and bank officials. This collaborative effort aims to streamline country-level implementation of the bank’s initiatives and improve the bank’s role in development.

Vincent Nmehielle, Secretary-General of⁣ the AfDB Group, chaired‍ the workshop. ‍”We’ve⁣ come away from this workshop having achieved many things,” Nmehielle⁣ said.

Participants also reviewed ongoing difficulties in securing the full application ⁢of⁢ privileges and immunities outlined in host country agreements, such as VAT exemptions. The bank’s primary mission is to contribute to the development of its⁣ member countries.

“To achieve this,⁤ we must create an enabling environment that supports⁢ free movement — essential⁣ not only for our work, but for African integration, intra-African trade, and ‍the continent’s development,” Nmehielle said.

The workshop included a presentation on the ‍bank’s updated decentralization strategy and frank discussions on operational‍ hurdles. Senior bank officials ⁢presented on the structure of‍ the Boards of Directors, lending policies, loan arrears, and sanctions. They emphasized the‍ proactive role ‍RMCs can play in advancing shared goals.
