Abu Dhabi: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has said it will provide temporary asylum to 5,000 Afghan nationals fleeing the Taliban. The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said it had accepted the US request to provide temporary accommodation for 5,000 people fleeing Afghanistan to other countries.

They will arrive in the UAE on American flights from the airport in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan. The UAE has flown officials and NGO activists from various countries on its flights from Kabul to various airports in the UAE. The UAE has already rescued about 8,500 foreigners. Following this, the UAE has come forward to provide temporary asylum to 5,000 Afghan nationals coming from Afghanistan.
Assistant Minister Sultan Mohammed al-Shamsi said the move was part of efforts to further enhance international cooperation. The UAE wants a peaceful solution to the Afghan crisis. He said the UAE would work with the international community to help the Afghan people in the midst of this uncertainty.
The British ambassador to the UAE, Patrick Moody, praised the UAE government for rescuing people, including British officials, trapped in Afghanistan. “Dubai is the safest place to get people to from Kabul,” he said in a video message from Dubai airport.
