Air conditioning for house or apartment: The trend is changing

Cool the apartment or house with air conditioning? In the end, that was out of the question for many people. But the trend seems to be changing.

According to a survey, more and more people are cooling their houses and apartments with air conditioning systems. 13 percent already have such a system, and another 16 percent are planning to purchase one, according to a consumer survey published on Monday by the comparison portal Verivox from Heidelberg. That is “far more than previously known”.

However, the majority of households still manage without air conditioning. 42 percent gave the reason that the temperature was okay anyway, 41 percent cooled the apartment in other ways, for example with fans, explained Verivox. Around one in five respondents did not use air conditioning for reasons of environmental protection.

Cost varies by model

Acquisition and operating costs also play a role. 41 percent stated that the prices for air conditioners were too high for them. The costs vary depending on the model. According to Verivox, permanently installed systems cost 2,000 euros, but with electricity costs of 40 to 60 euros they are comparatively cheap to operate. Mobile devices, on the other hand, are available for as little as 200 euros, but they consume significantly more electricity. Verivox speaks of costs between 90 euros and 290 euros – depending on energy efficiency and performance.

For the study commissioned by Verivox, pollsters from Innofact surveyed around 1,000 people aged between 18 and 79 online. According to Verivox, the survey is representative.
