Tirur (Malappuram): A complaint was lodged that a youth was beaten up by the moral police. The victim was identified as Salmanul Harris, 23, of Cheriyamundam, Vaniyannur, Tirur, Malappuram. He was admitted to Tirur District Hospital. The incident took place on the 17th of this month at Tirur Areekad.
Harris was attacked by a group of seven people for allegedly chatting with a girl on WhatsApp. Relatives allege that Harris was called to text her via WhatsApp from the girl’s number. He was then attacked with a stick. This was copied on the phone and circulated by the group itself.

But Harris did not report the incident at home. The information came out after he was admitted to the hospital last day and his relatives watched the video on social media. With this, the relatives lodged a complaint with the Chief Minister and the police. Relatives said Harrison was mentally ill.
Police have identified the culprits. But all seven members of the group are minors.
