Another 62 satellites were discovered; Saturn reclaims the crown from Jupiter

Moon is Earth’s only natural satellite. Many other planets in the solar system have many similar moons. Saturn was the crowned king of the moons for many years. But in February this year, Saturn lost its crown when astronomers discovered 12 new moons orbiting Jupiter. With the addition of new moons, the total number of Jupiter’s moons is 95.

But now astronomers from the University of British Columbia have discovered 62 new moons orbiting Saturn. With this, Saturn has secured the crown with 145 moons, surpassing Jupiter.

Saturn also holds the title of being the first planet with more than 100 moons. Before this discovery, Saturn had 83 moons. Jupiter is the largest planet in the solar system.
