Bus strike worsens public transport situation, says Bruno Reis

The effectiveness of the road strike could worsen the financial situation of public transport in Salvador. The assessment is by Mayor Bruno Reis. The category approved the state of strike last week, after failing to reach an agreement with the bus companies.

“The strike penalizes the population that will be left without public transport, but the strike also aggravates the transport system even more. The companies that operate in Salvador, like the companies that operate in Brazil, are in serious financial difficulties, a strike can result, for example, at the end of the month not having the resources to pay the salaries of the category”, said the mayor, this Monday (15).

According to Resi, the financial impact is great when there is a stoppage. “When the company stops running for a day, two days, this impacts its revenue. We have two basins here in Salvador, they should have an average revenue there, revenue should enter the system, something around R$ 1 million, you can imagine what it is R$ 2 million less at the end of the month, there were two days of strike, R$ 3 million if it were three days. There will be no money to pay”, he said. He remembered the case of the company CSN that ended up going bankrupt, due to financial problems.

He also said that he hopes that the category and the companies can reach an agreement to avoid the strike and suggests that the Labor Court mediate the negotiation. “If they don’t reach an understanding, they go to the labor court, which is a responsible environment to regulate and decide, right?”, He said.
