Apple will release the iPhone Duo on Friday, starting at $1,999 with limited quantities available on a walk-in basis, according to reporting by The Verge. Made for iPhone Duo App Store Badging
The new “Made for iPhone Duo” badge will appear across applications and games that utilize the device’s extra screen real estate. Apple announced that editorial collections dedicated to the hardware will launch on Friday, with additional app updates rolling out throughout the year.
Streaming platforms and productivity tools are among the first to adopt the multi-screen format. Netflix will display shows and movies taking up the whole inner display while running its feed of short-form clips on the outside. Amazon Prime Video will let viewers watch content with the Duo partially folded, placing the video on top and cast details on the bottom.
Desktop-Class Software Optimization Details
Microsoft Word and Outlook will provide a desktop-class experience on the Duo. Word will position its formatting tools alongside an active document, while Outlook displays an inbox next to a full email window. Zoom is also configured to display a video conference alongside shared content across the inner screen.
Other applications optimized for the new hardware include Paramount Plus, NYT Cooking, Yelp, Lyft, and United Airlines. However, testing by Nilay Patel at The Verge revealed that certain apps designated as optimized, including Instagram, still contain bugs.
Hardware Availability and Pricing
The iPhone Duo launches globally on Friday, with a starting price of $1,999. Apple confirmed that initial stock will be limited and offered on a walk-in basis.
