Republican congressional candidate Melissa Bailey has challenged fellow GOP primary candidate Anthony DiLorenzo over corporate policies regarding gym locker room access. The dispute centers on reports of a membership cancellation at a Planet Fitness location in Concord, New Hampshire.
Bailey, who is running for Congress in New Hampshire’s First Congressional District, expressed outrage over reports that a woman allegedly lost her membership at the Concord Planet Fitness. The woman had reportedly expressed concern that a man was using the women’s locker room.
Bailey argued that the incident highlights a need to protect spaces designated for women, and girls. She stated that separate spaces are necessary to ensure safety, privacy, and fairness, citing both private spaces and women’s athletics.

Women deserve safe spaces. That’s why we have them set up as separate spaces. We deserve safety, privacy and fairness, whether that’s in our daughter’s athletics and women’s athletics or in these private spaces in the very public space.

The conflict between the two candidates stems from DiLorenzo’s professional background. DiLorenzo is a Seacoast businessman whose holdings include Planet Fitness franchise locations, though those locations are situated outside of New Hampshire.
Bailey asserted that DiLorenzo’s business interests are directly linked to the corporate policies of Planet Fitness. She argued that DiLorenzo has not fought to change those policies to prevent biological men from accessing women’s locker rooms.
Bailey suggested that a failure to advocate for these changes within his own businesses indicates a lack of willingness to fight for similar protections in Washington.
In response to the criticism, the DiLorenzo campaign stated that the candidate has attempted to push for change on the issue privately. DiLorenzo issued a statement agreeing with Bailey’s position on locker room access.
Melissa is right no men should be allowed into women’s locker rooms. While I don’t control Planet Fitness policy, nor the laws of each state, I have made my concerns plainly known to the Planet Fitness CEO.
