Biden’s Emotional Thanksgiving Farewell on Nantucket as Presidency Winds Down
Joe Biden’s Final Thanksgiving as President
Joe Biden spent his last Thanksgiving as president in Nantucket, Massachusetts. This year’s visit is a part of a broader farewell to his presidency. The Democrat’s four-year term will be followed by Republican Donald Trump, who has been in the spotlight since the November election.
In July, Biden left the presidential race and Vice President Kamala Harris took his place. As Biden enjoyed time with his family, including his daughter Ashley, son Hunter, and grandson Beau, he reflected on his legacy. He returned to Washington late Saturday and planned to visit Angola the next day.
While walking through Nantucket, people expressed their support for Biden, saying, “We love you, Joe.” During this time, Biden faced questions about his administration’s accomplishments. When asked what he was thankful for on Thanksgiving Day, he said, “I’m thankful for a peaceful transition of the presidency.”
Biden mentioned that the narrow margins for Republicans in Congress may require Trump to make compromises. He expressed hope that Trump would reconsider his tariff threats against Mexico and Canada, emphasizing the importance of maintaining good relationships with these neighbors.
Leading up to Thanksgiving, Trump announced he would impose tariffs unless both countries addressed illegal immigration and drug trafficking. After discussions with leaders from Mexico and Canada, the situation remains unresolved.
Biden also discussed the need to avoid escalating tensions with China and expressed confidence that President Xi Jinping understands the stakes involved in U.S.-China relations.
On Thanksgiving Day, Biden and his wife, Jill, delivered pumpkin pies to firefighters and police. The family’s Thanksgiving tradition in Nantucket dates back to 1975 and is affectionately called “nana-tucket,” a nod to Jill’s role in establishing it.
The Biden family enjoyed meals at local restaurants and participated in festive activities, including a Christmas tree lighting.
This year’s holiday holds particular meaning for the family due to Hunter Biden’s upcoming legal issues, where he faces sentencing for felony charges related to a gun purchase and tax violations. President Biden has stated he will not pardon his son for these actions.
