“It is our responsibility as leaders of the United States and China to ensure that bilateral relations do not turn into an open conflict,” US President Joe Biden said on the 15th (local time).

The first summit between US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping began on the same day. The video conference was held at 7:45 pm on the 15th, US time, and at 8:45 am on the 16th, China time. This is the first meeting in 10 months since Biden took office in January.

President Biden said in his remarks on the same day that he wanted to avoid a clash between the US and China, saying, “We need a common sense guardrail.”

“The United States will defend American values,” he said. On human rights issues, he said he would discuss with China even on Indo-Pacific issues.
