On March 30, the “3rd Japan Open of Surfing” was held at Shizunami Surf Stadium in Makinohara City, Shizuoka Prefecture, with Amuro Tsuzuki and Shun Murakami winning the championship. I also got the seat of Japan representative of this year’s “ISA World Surfing Games”.

This tournament, co-sponsored by the Japan Surfing Federation (NSA) and the Japan Professional Surfing Federation (JPSA), will feature 18 top men and women from each of the top men and women selected at the training camp and the Asia Open this month. It was the first tournament to be held at the artificial surfing facility “Shizunami Surf Stadium” that opened in August last year, and it proceeded in a format different from the game at sea.

The tournament will be R1, R2, semi-final, and final, for a total of 4 rounds, and will be narrowed down to 18 people → 8 people → 4 people → 2 people. In each round, the number of waves that one player can ride is set to 4 to 8, and the total points of the best two are the points, and the top players advance to the next round.

Athletes will be notified in advance of a “wave-making schedule” that indicates the number and direction of waves (left / right) and the type of waves (maneuver / air).
Live broadcasts will also be delivered after the semi-final held according to the schedule below. Point calls and provisional rankings were announced after each ride, and the heat was tense.
