Calicut Native Cheated by Malayalees: A Young Man’s 4-Year Ordeal in Gulf Jail Continues, Appeals for Family Support

Calicut Native has been in Gulf Jail for Four Years: Seeking Family Support

Elathur – A young man from Calicut, Arun, has tragically remained imprisoned in the Gulf region for four agonizing years. His ordeal began when he was deceived by four individuals belonging to the Malayali community. Heart-wrenchingly, Arun’s desperate cries for help have fallen on deaf ears, with no assistance from esteemed figures such as the Prime Minister, Chief Minister, Union Minister V. Muralidharan, and Norka.

Arun, aged 31, hails from a humble background. He is the son of Sathishan and Rathi, a local fisherman from Kaniyamthaza. Arun’s dire circumstance has left his wife, Anusmriti, and his parents, who were cruelly separated from their son just three days after his wedding, devastated. Regrettably, they have yet to find any solace or support in their efforts to secure Arun’s release.

The distressing case revolves around Arun being sentenced for a liability of a staggering 5 crore Indian rupees, concerning bounced cheques. According to Arun’s relatives, the owners of the company he was employed in deceitfully utilized his name and opened a bank account. By doing so, they orchestrated the fraudulent act of signing the cheque under Arun’s identity. The case encompasses a total of 23 cheques, with 7 having been resolved thus far. Presently, 16 cases remain pending. The silver lining for Arun is that his release can be secured if he manages to settle the outstanding amount, after serving an arduous four-year prison sentence. It is disheartening that the four individuals responsible for perpetrating this injustice against Arun are still at large, thriving in foreign lands.

Despite filing complaints against Arun’s deceitful captors at both the Elathur and Kuttyadi police stations, no case was registered due to the inability to produce substantial evidence. The only semblance of respite for Arun is that he is allowed to make two weekly phone calls to his family from prison. The resolution of these cases hinges greatly upon successfully engaging with the complaining organizations to address the underlying disputes. Consequently, Arun’s family implores the Malayali community residing in Qatar, as well as the central government, to extend their unwavering support towards securing justice for their beloved son.

Elathur – A young man who has been in prison in the Gulf for 4 years after being cheated by four Malayalis is yet to be released. Arun (31) has been in prison in Qatar since 2019. Arun is the son of Sathishan and Rathi, who lives in Kaniyamthaza, a fisherman. None of the complaints made by the family to the Prime Minister, Chief Minister, Union Minister V. Muralidharan and Norka came to Arun’s rescue. His wife Anusmriti and Arun’s parents, who were separated from their husband just three days after their wedding, have not knocked on any door for the release of their beloved.

Arun was convicted in a case involving a liability of 5 crore Indian rupees related to bounced cheques. Relatives say that the owners of the company where he worked, opened a bank account with Arun and signed the cheque. The case is against the return of 23 cheques. Of this 7 cases of checks have been completed. Now there are 16 cases left. After spending four years in jail, Arun will be released even if he settles the remaining amount. The family says the four-person group that captured Arun is still active abroad.

Complaints were filed against those who cheated Arun at Elathur and Kuttyadi police stations, but no case was registered at both places as no evidence could be produced. The only consolation is that Arun can call home from prison twice a week. Cases will be resolved if the dispute is resolved by contacting the complaining organizations. Arun’s family is asking for the support of the Malayali community in Qatar and the central government.
