Capital health authorities urge residents to get flu vaccine as soon as possible | Australia | Canberra | Flu cases

The number of flu cases in Canberra this year is expected to exceed the previous two years, the ACT Health Department said, urging people to get a flu shot as soon as possible.

Don’t wait, the Department of Health says now is the best time to get a flu shot.

The best way to protect you and your family this winter is to get a flu shot. Flu strains change every year, and so do vaccines. That’s why you need to get vaccinated every year.

The flu vaccine helps protect people who are most vulnerable to serious illness, such as children, the elderly and anyone with underlying medical conditions.

The groups who can get the free flu vaccine include:

  • Children 6 months to under 5 years old
  • All Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people over 6 months old
  • pregnant woman
  • Residents over the age of 65
  • People over 6 months with certain medical conditions
  • People with disabilities and their carers over the age of 5
  • concession card holder

Get the free flu shot at: Access and Sensor Venturement clinic, the government vaccination clinic in Weston Creek, by phone on 02 5124 7700.

It is safe to get the flu vaccine and the COVID-19 vaccine at the same time.

Other places to get the flu vaccine:

  • GP Clinic
  • Children 6 months to under 5 years old can be vaccinated at the Early Childhood Immunisation Clinics at ACT Government Community Health Centres.
  • Pharmacies that offer flu shots (for residents 5 and older).
