CDU Vice President Karin Prien does not rule out BSW cooperation in the East

CDU federal deputy Karin Prien can imagine working with the Sahra Wagenknecht alliance – under certain conditions.

CDU federal deputy Karin Prien sees possible cooperation with the Alliance Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW) after the upcoming state elections in East Germany. She told the “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung” that it depends on the election programs and the personalities who are running for the BSW. A cooperation can then be examined on site.

However, Prien reiterated his rejection of alliances with the Left Party and the AfD due to the CDU’s existing incompatibility decision. For the federal government, it is also currently ruling out cooperation with the BSW. Schleswig-Holstein’s Prime Minister Daniel Günther (CDU) recently called for more openness to cooperation with the Left Party. CDU General Secretary Carsten Linnemann referred to the incompatibility decision regarding cooperation with the Left.

BSW is expanding in Thuringia

The focus is on the state elections in September in Brandenburg, Thuringia and Saxony. Thuringia in particular is facing a complex situation: according to current surveys, a new majority could emerge here, with the AfD currently the strongest, followed by the CDU.

In Thuringia, the Sahra Wagenknecht alliance is gaining ground four months before the state elections, according to a current Insa survey, while the AfD is losing support slightly. The party, founded by the former left-wing politician Wagenknecht, now reaches 16 percent, which means an increase of three percentage points compared to an Insa survey conducted in mid-March. This survey was created for the Funke media in Thuringia. The AfD, on the other hand, recorded a decline of one percentage point and reached 30 percent. Previous figures from Infratest-dimap from mid-March showed the Sahra Wagenknecht alliance at 15 percent and the AfD at 29 percent.
