China to learn Hindi; Move to hire translators at the border: Report | China | Hindi

New Delhi: China is reportedly preparing to recruit people who can handle Hindi at the border. According to intelligence sources, the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) is preparing to recruit graduates of various Chinese universities as translators of the Line of Control (LoC).

According to the report, the Tibetan Military District under the Western Theater Command will complete the recruitment process by next month. Western Theater Command monitors China’s border with India.

In the Line of Control, the Tibetan Military District oversees China’s territory bordering the northeastern states of Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The Xinjiang Military District, under the Western Theater Command itself, looks after areas bordering Ladakh.

Intelligence indicates that officials from the Tibetan military district have visited several colleges and universities in China over the past two months to report on the appointment of Hindi translators to the PLA.

For the past few months, intelligence has been reporting that the PLA is actively recruiting Tibetan-speaking Tibetan citizens to camps on India’s northern border. It was also reported that the PLA was teaching Hindi to soldiers for intelligence gathering and other tasks. Tensions between India and China have been simmering in eastern Ladakh since May 2020.
