[비즈니스포스트] The Democratic Party of Korea strategically nominated former Justice Minister Choo Mi-ae to Hanam-gap, Gyeonggi Province.

Former lawmaker Lee Eon-ju is competing in a three-person primary in Yonginjeong, Gyeonggi Province.

Ahn Gyu-baek, chairman of the Democratic Party’s Strategic Nomination Management Committee, announced on the 1st that he would strategically nominate former Justice Minister Choo Mi-ae to Hanam-gap, Gyeonggi-do, at the headquarters in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul.

Chairman Ahn said, “Hanam Gap is a mixed urban-rural area, so our party can say it is a rough area. Former Minister Chu requested from the party that we promote in a rough area, and he accepted.”

The previous day, the Strategic Officials Committee designated seven constituencies as strategic constituencies and recommended candidates for four. Eight constituencies decided to hold primary elections.

Former lawmaker Lee Eon-joo will face a three-person primary in Yonginjeong, Gyeonggi Province, against former Supreme Council member Park Sung-min and Lee Heon-wook, former president of Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Corporation.

Chairman Ahn said, “Former lawmaker Lee himself said that he started his career in this area,” and added, “Because it was absolutely not an advantageous area, we decided to hold a three-person primary rather than a strategic area.”

In addition, in Gyeonggi-do Hanam-eul, Kim Yong-man, the great-grandson of Baekbeom Kim Gu, director of the Provisional Government Memorial Association of the Republic of Korea, was strategically nominated; in Hwaseong-eul, former Hyundai Motor Company CEO Gong Young-woon was strategically nominated; and in Ansan Byeong, Park Hae-cheol, chairman of the National Federation of Public Industry Unions, was strategically nominated.

In Hwaseongjeong, there are three candidates in the race: Rep. Jeon Yong-gi, a proportional representative from the pro-Myung (pro-Lee Jae-myung) faction; Jin Seok-beom, former head of the Gyeonggi Welfare Foundation, and former Blue House administrator Cho Dae-hyun, who are also pro-Myung figures.

In the Gwangmyeong-eul constituency, incumbent lawmaker Yang Gi-dae and prospective candidate Kim Nam-hee will hold a primary. In Uijeongbu, lawyer Park Ji-hye, the No. 1 talent recruiter, will face off against prospective candidate Moon Seok-gyun, the son of former National Assembly Speaker Moon Hee-sang.

Candidates Son Hoon-mo and Kim Moon-soo will be competing in Suncheon, Gwangyang, Gokseong, and Gurye-gap, Jeollanam-do, which are the constituencies of Rep. So Byeong-cheol, who declared not to run. Reporter Lee Jun-hee
