Film producer Harvey Weinstein has been accused of sexually assaulting more than 90 women.

Weinstein is currently incarcerated after being sentenced to 23 years in prison by a New York State Trial Court in 2020 for sexually assaulting an aspiring actress.

The verdict of the first trial was upheld in a trial held two years later, but the conviction was overturned by the New York State Supreme Court on the 25th local time.

During the first trial, the testimony of women unrelated to the sex crimes Weinstein was accused of was admitted.

Weinstein could be tried again in New York state.

“With today’s ruling, the court is failing survivors of sexual assault,” said Judge Madeline Singas, who dissented from overturning the conviction.

Victims and human rights groups immediately protested.

In 2017, Weinstein’s sexual crimes came to light, and victims, including famous actors such as Angelina Jolie, continued to reveal their stories, sparking the ‘MeToo movement’ around the world.
