The police decided to check through the Police Investigation Review Committee whether it was an appropriate conclusion regarding the conclusion of the investigation related to the suspicion of “false specifications” by the daughter of the former chairman of the Power Emergency Response Committee popular Han Dong-hoon with acquittal.
Today, the Investigation and Review Committee of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency notified the People’s Livelihood Economic Research Institute, which reported suspicions of documents written by former President Han’s daughter.
The Investigation and Deliberation Committee of the Seoul Metropolitan Government said: “The decision not to forward this case will be made by submitting the case to the Investigation and Deliberation Committee after examining the adequacy of the investigation procedures and results.”
The Police Investigation Review Committee is an organization that reviews the adequacy of the process or results of police investigations before incarceration at the request of the complainant, victim or other persons involved in the case as early as the end of June.
Previously, in May 2022, civic groups such as the People’s Livelihood Economic Research Institute filed a complaint with the police, requesting an investigation into allegations of ghostwriting of a thesis by President Han’s daughter.
They allege that former President Han and his daughter conspired to write ghost documents, plagiarize essays from overseas websites, inflate volunteers’ work hours, and present apps created by professional developers as if they had been created themselves, leading to accusations of obstruction of official duties and obstruction of business.
However, last January, a year and eight months after receiving the complaint, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency’s Anti-Corruption and Public Crimes Investigation Unit decided not to forward all 11 charges filed.
At the time, police said, “there was no response from foreign organizations requesting data, and if the reason for accepting false data was insufficient oversight by the auditing agency, the crime of obstruction business is not recognized.”
The data presented by former President Han has not been proven to be false, and even if it were false, if the review agency accepted it for insufficient review, the agency’s work would not be hindered.
While it is being examined whether this conclusion could be overturned by the Police Investigation Review Board, lawyer Lee Je-il, who filed the complaint, assessed that “the trend of police investigations appears to have changed somewhat since the election general,” and added “We are actively working to change the existing decision not to forward the case.” I will express my opinion,” he said.
