Daniel Ricciardo returns to Red Bull F1 as a third driver[F1-Gate.com]

Red Bull Racing has confirmed that Daniel Ricciardo will return to the F1 team as a third driver for 2023.

At the end of the season, Daniel Ricciardo left McLaren, handing over the seat to Oscar Piastri for 2023. Ricciardo will return to Red Bull to assist with testing, simulation work and commercial activities.

After leaving McLaren, 33-year-old Daniel Ricciardo has strongly suggested he would return to Red Bull in 2023 as a reserve driver rather than a full-time seat at another team.

“Your smile says it all,” said Daniel Ricciardo.

“I’m very excited to be back with Oracle Red Bull Racing as a third driver in 2023. I already have many fond memories of my time here, but Christian (Horner), (Helmut) Marko, I’m grateful well done to the whole team. “

“For me personally, being in and being surrounded by the best team in Formula 1 is very attractive and at the same time it gives me time to recharge and refocus. Being with the team and working in the simulator, can’t wait to support test sessions and commercial activities. Let’s Go!”

Daniel Ricciardo made his HRT debut in 2011, joined Red Bull’s bottom team Toro Rosso the following year, and was called up to Red Bull Racing in 2014.

Red Bull Racing F1 Team Principal Christian Horner said: “It’s great to have Daniel back in the Red Bull family. He’s an incredible talent and a great personality. The whole factory is delighted to welcome him home. I’ n know what you’re doing,” he said.

“In his role as tester and third driver, Daniel will give us the opportunity to diversify and help the team with his experience and knowledge of what it takes to be successful in Formula 1 and help to developing the car. We are very happy to be working with Daniel again and look forward to everything he brings to the team in 2023.”
