A Russian missile attack on an apartment building in Kyiv on May 14, 2026, killed 24 people, including three children.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the death toll on May 15, 2026, stating that emergency workers had finished digging through the rubble of the building after more than a day of recovery efforts.
The strike targeted a nine-story corner block in the Ukrainian capital. In addition to the fatalities, 48 people were wounded, including two children.
According to the Ukrainian air force, the attack occurred during the largest barrage launched by Russia since the start of the all-out invasion of the country.
The city of Kyiv observed an official day of mourning on May 15, 2026, to remember those killed in the assault.
Following an analysis of the wreckage by Ukrainian experts, Zelenskyy stated that the cruise missile used in the attack was manufactured in the second quarter of 2026.
Zelenskyy indicated that the recent production date of the weapon demonstrates that Russia is continuing to import the equipment, resources, and components required for missile production by circumventing global sanctions.
“Stopping Russia’s sanctions evasion schemes must be a genuine priority for all our partners,”
Volodymyr Zelenskyy
