Democratic Party Accuses Government and Military of Cover-Up in Corporal Chae’s Case

“Truth Cover-Up Allegations Surrounding Corporal Chae’s Case Spark Outrage”

A serious contention arises as the Democratic Party of Korea accuses the government of concealing the truth related to the dismissal of the former head of the Marine Corps investigation. This investigation, which aimed to shed light on the untimely death of Corporal Chae Su-geun, coupled with subsequent charges of rebellion against the former head, raises concerns about a potential cover-up.

During a briefing at the National Assembly, Speaker Park Seong-joon addressed the matter, expressing, “The head of the marine corps investigation team, who sought to unearth the facts behind Corporal Chae’s tragic demise, was abruptly dismissed on charges of joint mutiny.” This dismissal raises questions as to the government’s intentions.

Spokesman Park further criticized the Yoon Seok-yeol regime and the Ministry of National Defense, emphasizing their current lack of accountability. “Only shameless figures are witnessed from their side,” he denounced.

Warning against potential concealment of the truth, Speaker Park declared, “Should those in power, both within the regime and senior military ranks, resort to trampling justice and hiding the truth, this case will become utterly intolerable. We will tirelessly expose and hold those responsible accountable.”

Kim Seong-joo, senior vice chairman of the party’s policy committee, echoed these sentiments at a morning press conference in the National Assembly. “Efforts to obstruct the investigation and hide the truth have become evident,” Kim alleged, referring to the government’s response regarding the case of Field Corporal’s passport.

Supreme Commissioner Jeong Cheong-rae voiced his opinion on Facebook, demanding prompt submission of the contents of the dismissed Marine Corps investigation team’s findings to the police.

The Democratic Party plans to address the matter of Corporal Chae’s untimely death through either the National Defense Committee of the National Assembly or the Legislation and Judiciary Committee.

Colonel Park Jung-hoon, former head of the Marine Corps investigative team responsible for Corporal Chae’s case, previously faced charges of being a “joint protest leader” and was relieved of his duties due to non-compliance with the order to withhold investigation results from the police.
