Vietnam and Switzerland Strengthen Partnership, Push for EFTA trade Deal

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bùi Thanh Sơn met with Swiss counterpart Ignazio Cassis recently, reaffirming a commitment to bolstering ties and accelerating negotiations for a vital free trade agreement.The meeting signals a renewed focus on deepening the extensive partnership between the two nations.
Deepening Bilateral Cooperation
during the talks, Sơn emphasized Vietnam’s strong desire to build on the existing framework for cooperation established by leaders of both countries. He highlighted the importance of translating this framework into concrete actions and a clear implementation plan. vietnam is keen to see substantive and effective collaboration with Switzerland across a range of sectors.
Vietnam also expressed its readiness to collaborate with Switzerland and other partners to move forward with negotiations for a free trade agreement between Vietnam and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA). This agreement, officials believe, will unlock notable economic benefits for both sides.
“Vietnam and Switzerland possess many complementary strengths,” Sơn noted, “and enhanced trade cooperation will undoubtedly be mutually beneficial.”
Advancing the Vietnam-EFTA FTA
Cassis echoed the sentiment, expressing Switzerland’s eagerness to strengthen the friendship and expand cooperation with Vietnam in various fields. He specifically pledged to prioritize the next round of negotiations for the Vietnam-EFTA FTA.
He also committed to working collaboratively to resolve outstanding issues, aiming for a swift conclusion to the negotiations.This commitment underscores Switzerland’s belief in the potential of the agreement to foster economic growth and strengthen bilateral relations.

Beyond bilateral trade and cooperation, the two Foreign Ministers engaged in a broader exchange of views on pressing regional and international issues. this dialogue reflects a shared interest in promoting peace,stability,and prosperity in the wider Indo-Pacific region and beyond.
